About Us
Messengers of Change MoC is a grassroots organization led by Black immigrant women, alongside a dedicated Board of Members and volunteers. Our mission is to bolster and nurture community resilience in the face of both natural and human-made challenges. We aspire to cultivate social capital at the community level as a fundamental tool for bolstering resilience. We do this by offering training and fostering local knowledge development for Black immigrant women in Manitoba. Our support extends to women from conflict zones, survivors of Gender-Based Violence, and others facing vulnerability.
In response to the growing call for the inclusion of immigrants and refugees in Canada, we’ve established the Resilient Sisterhood Group. This group serves as a crucial support system and safety net for Black women in our Manitoba communities. Women from diverse backgrounds come together in monthly gatherings, forming groups of 10 or more. Through these meetings, they build sisterhood, combat isolation, and address issues of significance to themselves and their families. Typically, these meetings take place in a physical community center, but during the COVID pandemic, we transitioned to virtual gatherings.
Our commitment revolves around leadership development, advocacy, community action, and active citizenship. We strive to eliminate barriers to access information, healthcare, education, safety, and economic independence while creating a welcoming space for women to celebrate their cultures, families, and personal growth. Additionally, we facilitate connections through indigenous networks, social media, and one-on-one interactions, fostering trust and reducing isolation. This network empowers participants to build connections with other immigrants and Canadians for support.
To achieve our goals, we collaborate with community-based partners who provide additional assistance, including culturally appropriate counseling and spiritual guidance.
MoC’s Mission is to empower and strengthen Black immigrant women and their communities in Manitoba by promoting resilience, fostering social capital, and providing support for those facing natural and human-made challenges. We are dedicated to enhancing the well-being and self-sufficiency of our members, especially women from conflict zones and survivors of Gender-Based Violence, through education, advocacy, and community building. Through these initiatives, we work tirelessly to break down barriers to accessing information, healthcare, education, safety, and economic independence. Additionally, we are committed to creating a warm and inclusive environment where women can joyfully celebrate their cultures, families, and personal growth.
MoC envisions a future where Black immigrant women in Manitoba are resilient, self-reliant, and thriving members of their communities. We aspire to create a welcoming and inclusive society where these women have equal access to opportunities, information, healthcare, education, and economic independence. Our vision is to build a strong sisterhood that transcends cultural boundaries, promoting unity and celebrating diversity.
